Foster Warriors™ Gain Access to Transcendental Meditation to Help Heal from Trauma.
Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a form of meditation that involves the silent repetition of a mantra or sound and is practiced for 15–20 minutes twice per day. It is a non-religious method that promotes relaxed awareness, stress relief, self-development,and higher states of consciousness. (Wikipedia.org)
One of the benefits of becoming a Foster Warrior is gaining access to valuable tools and resources such as TM to help overcome trauma and promote overall wellbeing. Foster Warriors has partnered with the David Lynch Foundation’s Los Angeles TM Center provide free training for young adults who have aged out of the foster system so they can learn this meditation technique.
Lynn Kaplan, DLF Regional Director and lead TM te acher at the Los Angeles center shared that “The David Lynch Foundation has worked with 1000’s of youth … once they take the training, they will have this tool for the rest of their lives. They become self-sufficient with TM and wherever they go it is there for them.”
Steviey Is a Foster Warrior™who has gone through the TM training an before going through the training as impulsive and not careful with himself. He admitted his past behavior of always running late used to anger and frustration those around him, and that “before I started TM, I was afraid of the world, afraid of failure, and even afraid of success”.
The benefits he’s seen from his consistent TM practice are both immediate and long-term. Immediately after a session, he feels a sense of calm, with a clear mind and waning anxiety.
“Your response depends on you. When I finish meditating, I may feel a sense of calm. When you finish, you may have a burst of energy.” He added that the positive sides of his personality are enhanced, and he can shake negative thoughts quicker than he was previously able to.
Some of the long-term benefits for Steviey involve getting in touch with past trauma, even that which he isn’t consciously aware of, and in turn, examining and healing it. He astutely expresses that his purpose in life is to help people find their own peace through sharing his story of personal trauma, and through TM, he is finally able to open up and speak about it.
Possibly the most revelatory of Steviey’s remarks was that not only does he plan to keep TM a part of his daily life forever, but that heis going to pass his knowledge of the practice down to his children and his children’s children, calling it the most impactful action he has taken to benefit his future life.
