Patrick D. Butler
Master Sergeant Butler was born on the13th of May, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Hilliard High School in 1993 and left for Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island South Carolina in June of 1993.
After completing Recruit Training in September 1993, PFC Butler attended the Field Artillery Fire Control-Man Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon graduating from Fort Sill, he reported to Sierra Battery, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines for duty as a Fire Direction Man. During this assignment, he served as achart operator, recorder, computer operator and Assistant Ops Chief.While Serving with Sierra Battery MSgt Butler deployed twice to Okinawa Japan, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and attended Sergeants Course.
Upon return from his 2nd deployment to Okinawa in 1998, Sgt Butler attended Recruiters School and was assigned to Recruiting Sub Station Colorado Springs, Recruiting Station Denver,Colorado. In December of 2000 Sergeant Butler was promoted to Staff Sergeant and was transferred to Kilo Battery 3/12 at Camp Pendleton California for duty as the Operations Chief. While serving with Kilo battery SSgt butler again deployed to Okinawa. In 2003 SSgt Butler deployed to Iraq and participated in Operation Opening Gambit in support of Operation Iraqi freedom. While serving with Kilo Battery SSgt Butler was awarded two Navy Achievement Medals. In 2003 SSgt Butler reported for duty as an 81mm Mortar Platoon Sergeant with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. While serving with 3/5 SSgt Butler participated in Operation Phantom Fury in Al Fallujah Iraq where he was awarded a Navy Commendation with combat V. In 2006 SSgt butler deployed to Iraq for the 3rd time and was a key member in the development of the Mobile Assault Platoon. While serving with 3/5 SSgt Butler completed the SNCO Career Course. In September of 2006 SSgt Butler transferred to the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy for duty as an instructor with Sergeants Course. While serving at the SNCOA SSgt Butler filled the billets of Instructor Advisor, Chief Instructor, and SNCOIC for Sergeants Course as well as Instructor Advisor for Advanced Course. While serving at the SNCOA SSgt Butlerwas promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and completed the SNCO Advanced Course as well as the Senior Enlisted Joint PME. Whileserving at the SNCOA GySgt Butler was awarded his 2 nd Navy Commendation Medal. In October of 2009 GySgt Butler was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines for Duty as the Battalion Survey Chief. Due to personnel shortages within the battalion GySgt Butler was assigned as the Assistant Battalion Operations. In 2012 GySgt Butler deployed as an embedded advisor to Kajaki, Afghanistan as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Police-Advisor Team Four IMEF. While deployed GySgt Butler was selected for and promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon his return from Afghanistan MSgt Butler assumed the duties of Battalion Operations Chief for 3rd battalion, 11th Marines. After 1 year as the Battalion Operations Chief he was transferred to 11th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton California for duties as the Target acquisitions Platoon Chief. And Assistant Regimental Operations Chief.
In February of 2015 Master Sergeant Butler was again transferred, this time to 5 th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment for duty as the Battalion Operations Chief where he Retired in 2017. Mr. Butler served one year as a contractor teaching targeting systems and preparing unit battle staff for deployments to Afghanistan. In 2018 Mr. Butler took a sabbatical focus on family and academics. He is currently applying for a PhD in Leadership Studies.
Patrick is Married to Jill Butler andis a proud Step-dad to Ayla Sallee.
